DH taking me for our anniversary!!

I really want to make the most of it, and see the sights. We want to go by Eurostar.

Does anyone have a hotel recommendation, and good places to see?

Thanks

It's a long time since I've lived in paris but some of the less obvious tourist places are fantastic.

Eliglise Staine Chapelle on the ile de la Cite is lovely, with a huge stained glass window. Much more beautiful than Notre Dame.

View from the arc de triomphe is better than eiffel tower.

you used to be able to get to the top of the Institut du Monde Arabe for free (there was a cafe at the top) and it gave really good view over the seine.

what sort of things do you like doing?

Thanks choufleur.

I like historical things. Actually I would love to see the Palace of Versailles. Is it far?

Versailles is on the RER C but would be a full day trip from Paris.

You will need to plan your trip carefully, probably with reference to a metro map, to get the most out of it. When are you going?

if you have time to go to Versaille then do - it's wonderful, but you will need a full day.

La Louvre is great but is large and can take a lot of time to get around. Worth at least looking at from outside even if you don't go in though. You are then near to the Tuileries as well.

It the weather's nice and it's not too far try to walk rather than get the metro. Paris is actually not that large a city and you'll see some wonderful sights just wandering.

If yiou're into military history les invalides is good. Also where napolean's tome is.

you can go to the top of the mountparnasse tower as well in a really fast lift.

Frakkin- we're going at the end of March -I hope.

Some great ideas here.

Thanks to you both.

End of March the gardens at Versailles will probably be lovely. Had you been going in Jan then yes the chateau is nice but the gardens are what makes it really special IMO.

I've stayed in a great hotel called Le Regent in the Saint-Germain area. 61 rue Dauphine.

great area, lots of restaurants nearby, close to the Seine, walk to Notre Dame, Louvre. You can get a tube straight from Gare Du Nord having got off Eurostar, down to within a short walk of the hotel.

I always love to go to Sacre Coeur first, to see the whole view of Paris.

Go early to Eiffel, the queues are long.

I enjoyed the Versailles trip out, easy by train.
