Tell me about London

I am coming down from the northern wilderness to London in January and will have four hours on my own before a meeting.

What can I do?

I don't know London at all and want to stay within the yellow and green/purple and pink square in the middle of the tube map (if that makes sense!) to avoid getting lost.

I have done Buckingham Palance and British museum before. I hate crowds and queuing. I'd like to find something nice and quiet to do like a stroll in a park, or a churchyard or a small museum.

Come on Londoners, help out a bumpkin.

The Wallace Collection behind Selfridges, Manchester Square jutr off Oxford Street is my favourite museum in London - have a look online. Small, gorgeous and just lovely. If you have to pick one, choose this one!

Or Sir John Soames house, again not far, Holborn I think.

I also like the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden!

Seconded for John Soane (isn't it?) museum. Best small museum I have been to in Central London. From there you can easily walk to Covent Garden or Lincolns Inn Fields (where all the barristers chambers are).

Yes - The Wallace Collection, plus Selfridges and Liberty. Lucky you.
