I need inspiration!! Done France last 3/4 years so fancy a change.

Would like a hotel (fed up with self catering), maybe with a couple of things going on for the children but not loads and loads of organised entertainment.

Anyone been anywhere nice they could recommend please?

was going to say butlins but something tells me your budget stretches a bit further than mine

We're going self catering to Mull - again. I suspect this isn't the sort of thing you were thinking of but imo holidays only take place in Scotland.

merlin · 20/11/2009 19:37

My budget isn't bottomless SSD, but, no offence, Butlins is not my cup of tea - sorry!!

NL - Mulls always looks idyllic to me but don't think DH and DS's would agree!

Oh go without them!

Actually my girls love it - gteat beaches in the Hebrides, sea can be a mite chilly but what you save on flights you could spend on wetsuits?

Oooh Porto - kiddies hotel with a spa for the grownups - now you're talking! Will check them out thank you!

The only thing that worries me is the language! DD is 5 and speaks french and english. DH has a pathological fear of german speakers! Only cos he can't speak a word (I can). I know other MNetters have been to Kindrhotels in Austria. I have to avoid (sadly) for the above reason. Some of them look lovely!

We are thinking of going to the Hotel Brennseehof in Austria (Kinderhotel), which comes recommended by a good friend. It's right on the lake and offers loads of sports for both adults and children (ours will be 6 and 8 next summer), as well as a kids club, wellness area and apparently very good food.

Another fan of Kinderhotels here . We've stayed at the Hotel Alpenrose in Lermoos and had a fab time. Great children's programms, lovely adult spa, lots of outdoors activities (free bikes, guided nordic walking, cable cars up the mountains etc.) and excellent food (with lots of themed buffet evenings).

Yes, most staff do speak German (obviously, as it is in Austria ), but do make an effort to communicate in English, certainly more so than the French do in France imo.

Thanks all - will check out Kinderhotels!
