County Wicklow in Ireland

We are thinking about a week's holiday in Ireland in April. I need open space and gorgeous scenery ! I know everyone raves about the west coast and it does look fantastic but in terms of convenience I am thinking it would be easier to be near Dublin (we would fly). Much as I would be happy in the middle of nowhere for a week, I have to face the possibility of rain and the difficulties of hill walking with an 8 year old with special needs . So it would seem a good idea to be able to be within striking distance of Dublin for one or two day trips.

So....my question is - is County Wicklow lovely too and would I be able to get my fill of gorgeous countryside or would it be better to make a bit more effort to get to Galway / Connermara? Or any other suggestions?

Wicklow is breath taking! You should Look up glendalough stunning views, lovely walks all laid out around&its free, powerscourt gardens/town house fab huge public gardens really beautiful you pay for this one but its worth it, Bray lovely seaside town pebble beach&amusement/arcade for the kids&they also have Sealife/the national aquarium there which ye can come&go from all day, come back at feeding times its gr8, Graystones lovely little town/village, blue flag beach, great seafood&they used to hav a weekly farmers market not sure if they still do... avoca hand weavers, real tourist haven, see all the old fashioned 'stuff' & buy some knitted jumpers they also had a glass blowing place yrs ago... And wicklow has loads of hills&mountains to climb too if ye did decide ye wanted to its a handy drive from the airport depending on where exactly ye stay will ye rent a car? It'd be the handy way to c loads of lovely places.I live quite close to Wicklow&we love to jus go for a nice drive out there.
