Have used AA in the past both longhaul and shorthaul.

What longhaul routing are you planning?. If you are leaving from the UK I would seriously consider using a British based carrier instead.

Continental's slogan should be, "not quite the worst".

Not recently - but used AA quite a lot in the past & it was fine.

They are the only viable options cost and time-wise
I am flying from uk to costa rica and back via NY with a 5 day stopover

i have only flown continental internally in the US and I was asleep for most of the flight

Have done AA to NY a few times and they seemed ok

AA is better. You get more leg room.

yes that's why we used to fly with them
Thought they may have changed tha tin the current climate

I also love their policy of giving anyone wiht an english accent two of whatever alcoholic thing they order because we are all alcoholics!!
