2 children on one bike - is it do-able?

About to go back to work after second maternity leave. Have always done nursery run on bike as terrible traffic. Is it safe, manageable etc etc to have a child seat on both front and back of the bike?? Would like to hear of anyone who has, and if so, what seat would you recommend for the front??

Thanks

You need NQC, as she's def done this. You might find your answer in old posts of hers if you search. In fact if you search old threads of mine on this subject I think there's prob one where she says.

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/11/2009 20:37

This is the thread that I was thinking of. NQC does indeed mention which seats she uses for 2 dc on at once.

sjcmum - alternatively, you might consider a bike trailer. I have no car and get around exclusively on my bike with DD in a trailer. We have a Burley Cub (the two-seater version so DD can bring a friend along). Excellent also for shopping, etc.

Thanks for that thread - another friend suggested the Weerider too - looks good, I just worry about how I'd actually get on to the bike because of the bar. If there is also a bike seat fitted on the back, I wouldn't be able to swing my leg over the back - so might be a bit of a struggle? Perhpas a seat which just attachs to the front bar would be better?

Found another thread too with some suggestions - but am wary of tag-alongs (daydreaming 3 year old with not much sense of balance just wouldn't be safe) and trailers - worry that cars wouldn't see them.

DH does it with a Loct on the front and a Hamax on the back.

One bloke round here has one on the front, one on the back and one on a tag along.

DH bought me a bike with a trailer in July and I'm just going to try it with DD and DS for the first time this morning. Have been a bit wary before as DS was a little small but he is 9 months old now so hopefully big enough

HectorTheDog · 07/05/2010 13:30

I would really like to buy a LOCT but I think it may have been discontinued. Does anyone have one they're not using any more and might consider selling?

hi, i haven't used one but when we were in amsterdam loads of people had bobike front carriers with a little windscreen with 1 or 2 seats on the back as well! they are probably the most experienced when it comes to using bikes.

I live in Holland and take both DC on my bike - but its what the Dutch call a Mothers Bike - so quite sturdy and long and as a v low frame so easily able to get on and off - eg no high bar. Think mountainbikes can be quite tricky to carry 2 kids on???
Found it very easy to to get used to having both kids on at the same time. Have BoBike front and rear seats. DS1 is getting too heavy now and not really old enough to cycle to school on his own so about to invest in one of these bikes[ here]] - v funny to look at but quite popular over here! No cheap tho - around 1,000euros new - gulp!
