me, dh, dd (5) and ds (2) want to have a week away in europe somewhere (so the flight isn't too long). we would like a fun kids pool with slides, fountains etc and a walk to a sandy beach. we would absolutely have to have a seperate bedroom for the kids (they don't sleep otherwise!) and of course i don't want it to cost too much! any ideas?

Why not consider a large mobile home on a campsite? Many have 2 or 3 beds, air con and direct beach access.

Union Lido in Italy looks fab and you don't need a car there. You also have your own space outside the van.

this place looks absolutely perfect, thank you so much!!!! we can stay in a 2 bed mobile home at the end of august for 2 weeks for £1200(plus flights and food etc) i'm dying to show it to my husband now!

i knew mumsnet wouldn't let me down!

Once you discover this sort of holiday there are so many sites you can try all over Europe.

If you find your budget is tight, Siblu are good value but Matthews Holidays are VERY cheap (but do not go to sites as plush as Union Lido).

We have used many companies but always go to sites where you can walk to the beach now. We are off to nr Barcelona next Summer - but we drive!

sorry to butt in but 'union lido' looks fab -we are also looking for somewhere similar but maybe in austria or menorca for early summer holidays. does anyone know of anywhere - ds will be 4 and loves those mushroom water fountains!

We've been to Union Lido too - was fab. We never set foot off site for a week - everything you need is there.

i looked at the reviews on the internet and although it sounds like generally it is great the one thing that is putting me off is the reports of the insects in august. portofino, when did you go and how was the biting insects then?

We went in June. They sprayed the mossies every night. I don't remember it being a problem.

Another Italian site a bit further along coast

Alternative site in Spain?

We have been to Parc Albatross in Italy. It's fab for families. It's a big site with 3 pools, restaurants. beach near-ish.

and Canvas have a family extra site there.

We're going again this year.

We have just booked to go to Union Lido! Looks great! We are flying to Venice Marco Polo - any ideas about best ways to travel to U.L. from there? Airport taxi quoted over £300 !!!!!

Portofino · 21/12/2009 14:15

Chinwag, I've just booked Parc Albatros next July. When are you off?

For Union Lido, we booked an airport transfer from Trevisofrom this lot Though their website seems to be concentrating on ski resorts at the mo. It cost us about 100 euros each way - but for that we got an air con'd limo, and a guy who knew the shortcuts through the horrendous traffic jams. It was worth every penny!

myalias · 21/12/2009 14:31

Union Lido is excellent we went there 4 years ago. Would recommend the ferry ride to Venice.

here is fantastic - just perfect!! It's on the same coastline as Union lido and pre del Torre but a bit smaller - still has all the facilities though! pra del Torre was huge - too big for me! Selectcamp and canvas go there or you can book direct. Love it love it love it!!
You can get a bus from marco Polo - they have loads up and down the coastline and stop outside or near the campsite. The website s either www.atvo.it or something similar!! I'm useless aren't I?! Buses are dead cheap - yo maky have to change at San dona di piave but the bus drivers helped us with bags etc - al very friendly! Airport bus staff speak English and went out of their way to help.
