We are thinking of having a brief break after Christmas/NY and want to go somewhere hot & relaxing....well, as relaxing as it can be with 4 kids in tow. DCs are 12, 10, 9 and 6. Any feedback or alternative suggestions gratefully received....

We've been to the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh in Hurghada. The accomodation is superb - individual bungalows with your own little courtyard, the beach is beautiful (nice surprise after rocky Sharm beaches) and the food is very good. BUT, we went when our DD was a toddler, and Im not sure it would be too good for older children. I understand there's a kids club, but we didnt see anything, and Im not sure there would be activities for older ones. It is a smallish, quiet, romantic, luxurious hotel and I think older kids would be bored. Id love to go back with DH, but dont think Id consider taking our now 5 year old even for this reason. We're now looking for somewhere bigger in Egypt with more activities. Have you thought about the Four Seasons in Sharm? Very expensive, but absolutely fabulous, beautiful resort, huge rooms, great service, but bigger and better set up for school age kids I would say than the Oberoi. There is a family area with 2 bed family appartments, big pool complex and kids club. Been twice and would go every year if could afford to!

Hi Maxiebaby. Thanks so much for this. Been to Four Seasons in Sharm and although it is lovely I'm not fussed about going back - thought it would be nice to try somewhere new but the Oberoi doesn't sound right for older kids. Travel agent has recommended the Kempinski in Soma Bay as being better for pre-teens and it does look quite all-singing/all-dancing and Dubai-esque but we can't get flights
