Hello, we're flying to Melbourne with our 6 month old and wondered whether taking a travel play gym was a good idea. He loves playing on his one at home so much I wondered if he could put one by our feet to keep him entertained. He'll be sleeping in a bassinet (hopefully) so will have a bulkhead seat with a little more room.

We went to NZ with a five month old - and I wouldn't take a gym. Not only will they not let you put the baby on the floor, you'll have enough crap essential equipment to carry as it is.

Ours was happy enough with the plastic cutlery from our dinner trays and a shaker made out of an empty water bottle filled with the snack pretzels.

What the others said. It is illegal for anyone to be on the floor on an aircraft.
