Fabulous but relaxed hotel for romantic weekend break - Norfolk, Suffolk perhaps

Can be flexible on area, but would prefer not to be more than 2 hours (ish) drive from South Cambs. Money no object, within reason.

Somewhere with its own fabulous restuarant, or one within easy walking distance. Not stuffy and no dress codes (dh has to wear suits all week so won't at weekends and I don't have any smart clothes ).

Dh had suggested the Crown at Southwold, but it is fully booked for the weekend we want.

Broad House Hotel Wroxham - charming and very laid back!

BonjourIvresse · 22/10/2009 14:45

I second the broad house hotel, or you could go to the white horse brancaster. I've stayed at the hoste arms, great food but our room was tiny and you could hear the noises from the bar...which i thought was a bit much with the prices they charge. You could also do self catering here, I can recommend the Melford - with its own hot tub...

No strong views on town v country. If secluded it has to have a good restaurant though - don't want to have to drive somewhere else in the evening.

Broad House, Hoste Arms both fully booked.

I'm wondering if it a tad optimistic to expect to find availability at anywhere good in Dec? Can't be flexible on dates though (unless we wait until Feb).

Victoria is fabulous. As well as the hotel, you can stay in the Arch at the entrance to the Holkham estate which is hugely romantic. Only about 15 mins from Burnham Market if you fancy some shopping and the beach at Holkham is absolutely gorgeous

Anyone been to or know anything of Milsoms Kesgrave Hall? Dh is keen, but I'm not sure. Reviews on Tripadvisor are very mixed.

MrsJohnDeere · 25/10/2009 13:25

Drawn a bit of a blank here. Everywhere is booked, apart from this hotel dh has suggested about which we know very little.

Considering The Bull at Bridport now...

I have it on good authority that the rooms here are quite something.

MrsJohnDeere · 25/10/2009 20:54

also fully booked

I thought The Victoria at Holkham was terrible, really wouldn't recommend.

what about a hotel du vin? I liked the one at Henley

I think Tuddenham looks good but I haven't stayed there

runawayquickly · 27/10/2009 22:49

MrsJohnDeere, have you found anywhere yet??

pipWereRabbit · 27/10/2009 22:52

I love The Swan at Lavenham.

MrsJohnDeere · 28/10/2009 17:13

Still haven't booked anywhere.

Given up on the Victoria at Holkham after 2 ignored emails abaout availability and a rude lady on the phone.

Narrowed it down to Kesgrave Hall (but I can only find so-so reviews, and it isn't quite as lovely as I was hoping for), and (complete change of area) Babington House, one of the Rick Stein places, and the Bull at Bridport (and possibly the Endsleigh in Devon).
