Recommendations for self catering villa in May

Hi,
We're hoping to go away for a week in May for a family holiday. There will be my husband and myself, our children (4 (just) and 1), my brother, my parents! We want a villa.
We wanted somewhere warmish but not too hot.
We like a bit of beach but not every day... watersports, walking, bit of history would be good...
We were thinking of Malta, but looks quite hilly with lots of steps and not sure that's great for buggy...
Any suggestions?

We haven't been yet, but we're going in May, to Sardinia. Seems to tick a few of the boxes you're after. Plenty of choice on owners direct or holiday lettings. We're taking a 3 year old and a 1 year old so hoping it's buggy friendly too! Heard many lovely things about it, and you can fly from many regional airports with easyjet or jet2. We're staying near the Costa Smeralda which has some beautiful beaches (apparently!) Sorry to be so vague, but having not been, I don't want to put my neck on the line!
