Thinking of going to the Black Forest in August - Any recommendations?

Never been, but we are thinking of driving down to the Black Forest in late August with our 2 children aged 12 and dd will be just under 3.

Has anyone been and if so any recommendations for accomodation, best area for things to do etc?

Have a great time. I went as a child maaaaaany yrs ago, & loved walking in the forest eating the wild strawberrys. Heidelberg was beautiful & we stayed in Karlsruhe - I enjoyed the trams.
