Desperately looking for a quality holiday for two adults, 1 child, 1 baby. Got to be in October - November. Have searched Tenerife but the nicer resorts hotels 5* are B&B and concerning us the price (HB working out £4000)plus babysitting £12ph (child club free to ds1)- Mauritius would be ideal but dont want flight. We want top accommodation and good food in a nice resort, sand etc....we dont want much????!!!! What about Halkidiki in October? or are there any other shorthaul hols. The euro rate is so bad and concerned that if we go Tenerife we'll have to add another £1000 spending for lunch, drinks etc
It'll be gutting to end up spending £5k on a holiday to tenerife! We havent had a holiday in 5 years and hubby near enough works 7 days per week so we want to lap it up! help.....!!!!!

cut out on the babysitting and make it a family holiday together i.e doing stuff you can take your kids with you, thal save money

we now book apartments and flights seperately. We are going to Benalmadena in October to gorgeous 3 bed apartment for 2 adults 3 kids (14,11 and 7)for less than £1000. I wouldn't go back to a hotel now after all the space a private apartment gives us

Halkidiki will be cold.

How about Cyprus? Some very good family properties there.

Try los gigantes spa and suite resort in Tenerife

Friends of mine have got flights to Tenerife in Nov for £60. I looked but can only go 2nd week in Oct and flights were £180. I did find 3* apartment that I've been too before for £200 for the week.

When we were there last year I thought that food, etc was cheap there even with the euro. 3 euros for a full english breakfast, you couldn't get it that cheap over here.

What about Turkey? You can stay at the 5 all inclusive Hilton Dalaman Golf & Spa for £1700 (2 adults, 1 child, 1 baby) flying from Gatwick with Thomas Cook in October. They have 5 half board in Tenerife, Roca Nivaria (Playa Paraiso) for £2800 (£3400 AI).

agree - halkidiki freezing in october - that's why their prices are so good!

we're going to cyprus...

Managed to sort it. Seached my arse off to find 5 at 3 prices. I went through a company called OTbeach who came back with Gran Anthelia in Costa Adeje £1000 less than Sovereign offered, two rooms interconnecting, childcare for my 4 year old and have sourced a nanny out there directly.

Wanted to go to Tenerife because of the short flight and departing from my local airport. Also got the return flight free with Ryanair (actually cost £130) and the outwood £240 so I am extrememly pleased with myself.

Gave up with the travel agents in town as they were hopeless - did it all myself, have booked the taxi from the airport to the hotel £20 less than the holiday companies quoted. The taxi company even provide a baby seat!

bacon how was your holiday?

bacon · 26/11/2009 21:53

Stressed2007 - Fab, Anthelia was fab, expensive, but exactly what we were looking for.
Lovely location apart from being on the edge of the what I would call nasty part of the amercias. Tovascias (spelling???) looks run down and was a horrible walk along the prom and couldnt believe how run down, tacky and pretty nasty - got worse when I saw half broken down escalators up to the centre. Quickly popped back into taxi back to the bar of the hotel. Much better but lacking atmosphere up Duque side. The beach is much better here too.
Hotel was lovely, the rooms (had two interconnecting) were nice but looking a bit worn and the bathroom def needed refurb. The gardens were well manicured and the staff worked hard from ground maintenance through to restaurant and bars. Childrens club very good, lots of good crafts. Nanny worked well, she only came in the nights as didnt want him to go in the day as having the children wasnt a problem at all. Highly rec the nanny/babysitter for the evenings as found it too stressful to take both out at night.
The weather was perfect for 10 days a slight breeze but brill.
Central Amercias was lovely very smart and busy, Los Chriso was very disappointing and very shut down. The Euro have affected this area as prices are the same as here and some meals were more. Wine good from the cheapest in the Spar to Rojas in the hotel.
Overall we spent just over £4000 in total for 10 days.

What about Egypt? Guaranteed weather and hotels are mostly all inclusive - and reasonable too! Flight isnt too bad either - about 5 hours iirc

Have a look at Los Gigantes Spa and Suites hotel in Tenerife. We booked it with lowcostbeds.com (got cash back through Quidco), and booked flights with jet2 or flybe or something - £1000 for the three of us for 5 nights inc hire car - TBH we found 5 nights was just long enough with toddler.

Hotel is 5* - seperate bedroom/living room so you can put kids to bed and sit on balcony etc. Mini bar in room 4 restaurants 5 pools, kids area inc huge soft play. Cant recommend it enough. Its was recommended to me by another couple of MN'ers. Oh it has an amazing spa too.

Oh Bacon, it is a shame that i did not see this post before as i work as a nanny, babysitter and maternity nurse in Tenerife and was only working at the anthellia 2 weeks ago myself looking after 2 lovely little boys.

Glad you liked the hotel and it is a shame that i could not have helped you out but, maybe next time!

If you want to return to the island and are looking for childcare you can have a look at my website at
