Long shot, but has anyone visited Basel/Basle?

Planning a quick trip before Christmas and ideally looking for hotel recommendations. Not the most obvious city break, I know. Blame DH - his football team have a match there!

My dh goes sometimes and stays at 3 Kings (drei koninge?? My German's shite. )

Anyway he really likes it, it's right on the river apparently.

When do you plan to go, as they have a Christmas Market. It is a compact city and has some lovely spots to visit and some good exhibitions - we saw a Tutankhamum one there before it came to London. However haven't stayed there so can't recommend a hotel - sorry - but heremay help.
