In Jamaica?

It seems a hell of a lot of food & drink to me - it's lunch & dinner & drinks

Does anyone know how much a coke costs in Jamaica or a nice meal?

That seems very good value.

If I were you I would look up the hotel on Tripadvisor

what you mean £695 each?

I would say it's definitely worth it but you get very different standards of AI.

I would read reviews.

AI is fab though cos you can usually eat and drink as much as you want whenever you want. Activities are often included too.

Katymac · 11/09/2009 22:35

Sorry I may have misled you the extra to make the holiday is £695 & I am trying to find out if that is worth it

It is for all 3 of us

Aaaah, I see.

I have no idea, sorry!

Katymac · 11/09/2009 22:58

That is £50ish a meal (& no drinks)

But DH & I don't drink - we would probably have about 10 soft drinks each

I think that's pretty reasonable TBH. Could you ask the hotel to email you a copy of the a la carte menu so you could see how much you would be looking at if you didn't go AI.

IME you usually end up spending LOADS on food & drink so AI usually works out cheaper in the end.

giddykipper · 11/09/2009 23:03

£50 per meal sounds quite a lot doesn't it, especially if no alcohol. I suppose the question is whether you would plan to leave resort - I'm sure you could eat for a lot less than that outside resort, but if you ended up in the hotel restaurant every night anyway, then AI is probably cheaper.

Katymac · 11/09/2009 23:14

Thinking about it - realistically even at 6 drinks each a day that is (say) £18 so over a week it's £126

So that leave £40 a meal

But if we had 10 drinks each that's £30 so £210 leaving £35 a meal

I guess the AI is the better value

Drinks all day or just with meals?

Katymac · 11/09/2009 23:41

The AI is for 'local' drinks all day

In that case I think it will be well worth it. Local drinks usually just means no imported, ie, branded drinks but soft drinks are usually coke, sprite and the like.

If you're just chilling at the resort most of the time I reckon you'd have more than 6 drinks each too.

Do it and enjoy

£695 for all of you is great, how long is that for.

We go self catering because generally our spending money for meals, drinks, ice cream etc is about £1200 for 2 week hol in europe.
However to go AI in most hotels is an extra £1500 so we're not saving anything by doing it

Katymac · 13/09/2009 22:00

It's for a week Boxing Day until the 2nd

The hotel is a bit ropey I think - I have been looking at trip advisor
