Horseshoe shaped loo seats

I noticed when going abroad that a few countries seem to have loo seats are horseshoe shaped, with a chunk missing from the middle (instead of being a continous oval shape) IFYWIM

Does anyone know the reason for it ?

Personally I hate it. I'm also wondering if it will put off my DD from sitting on it.

Lets hope they haven't been eating asparagus.

quite alot of older public loo's (usually ones in parks etc) still have this type of seat - perhaps you could find some in your area to get dd used to the idea? or you could just get arrested for hanging round toilets looking suspicious
