DD turns four tomorrow and trying to think of a day out for her and her youngers sister aged 2. Want somewhere we can have a picnic, have a play, etc. Any ideas? Can't believe I've left it this late to organise. Bad mummy. Thanks!

Arundel is nice. There is a huge lake with lots of Ducks and Swans, (its called Swanbourne Lake) you can hve a picnic there, then just down the road is a lovely big play park. Lots of places to buy n iceream or rent a little rowing boat on the lake.

Broadstairs in Kent is sweet for a day out if the weather's nice...sheltered bay, sandy beach and a nice ice cream shop up the steps. Steps in fact the only drawback- you have to go down them to get to the beach- not great if you're carrying toddlers, buggies etc- also beach v soft and sandy so not easy to drag a buggy along- but worth it when you get there!

the hop farm?

Howletts animal park near Canterbury. Plenty of play areas, lots of animals and plenty of places for a picnic.

Otherwise one of the EH sites- Dover or Walmer Castle are nice but not much to see for 4 year old. More space to play and have a picnic and shade is very hot.

Broadstairs Beach

The hop Farm Paddowck wood nr T/Wells

Plenty of stuff to do, depends how far you want to travel.

May be a bit far out, but Drucilla's is great for that age group.

Drusillas is fab - and so is Blackberry Farm in Halland (between Uckfield and Eastbourne in East Sussex) and latter is a complete bargain compared to Drusillas.

Blackberry farm is great too.

You can use Tesco days out vouchers for Drucillas, but yes it is pricey otherwise.
