Doesn't have to be anything flash, but somewhere that can cope with a 2 year old would be nice - we're getting in to the port at about 7.30, so as near as possible would be great.

Or just your experience of which ones to avoid would help too!

We stayed here www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-2160-ibis-cherbourg-la-glacerie/index.shtml last month and it was perfect for us.

About a 10 minute drive from the ferry port, fairly standard clean Ibis hotel, nice buffet breakfast and next to a huge Auchan for stocking up on the car picnic.

thanks for that - have just had a look at the website and can't quite work out whether we can share a room with DD - what did you do?

My DD is 21 months and we popped her travel cot in the corner of our room - it was a bit of a squash but fine for one night.

The hotel staff were lovely and spoke good english and offered to put up a travel cot or a camp bed for her. We decided to take our own travel cot as it was already in the car and i'm very fussy about hotel beds
