Tip/tricks for cheap[er] holidays in the school holidays?

DH is training as a teacher from next month so we will be restricted to going away in the school holidays for evermore. So I wondered if there are any tip/tricks for bagging cheaper holidays? So far I know that:

  • flying from Scotland at the end of August can be cheaper as the schools start back earlier there.
  • May half term is a good time to go to France as it's not a holiday there. ie Center Parcs is only £350 for Mon-Fri holiday - much cheaper then the UK ones!

I'm sure there are lots of ways around it, so please share your knowledge.

Book as far in advance as you can.

Shop around, then haggle.

Look for discounts - I got £200 voucher off a holiday with a particular travel agent (cant remember which - thomas cook or something) I also went through cash back sites and got extra off. (Better than the price I had got through haggling on only 1 out of 4 occasions)

Tesco clubcard vouchers can be used for holidays. Theres also a promo with a national newspaper, but Ive never done it.
