We (hubby and our 2 small boys aged 2 and 5) are going to visit friends in Dublin for a weekend in august and while we are over there are looking to spend a few more days in a family friendly hotel. We are looking for somewhere close to a beach with good amenities....money is no object (been saving hard all summer!) so would like somewhere luxurious, but still child friendly!....does such a place exist?

there's a nice little town just outside wateford called tramore - it has amusements for the dc's & a lovely hotel there is called " the sands hotel" we have just come back from there a week ago , had a great time .

Do you want to stay near Dublin or if not what's your maximum traveling time? Will you have a car or be relying on public transport?

Kellys should be fine in August, if money is no object. Out of season it is full of people playing bridge - according to my neighbour who plays bridge! Parknasilla in Kerry is lovely if you have a car; it is child friendly despite being very posh, has beautiful grounds...and I have had a cup of coffee in it. There are great beaches nearby. If you have no car, Killarney is good.

Was going to suggest kellys of rosslare also. or if you want to travel a bit further ther is the sheraton on fota island in cork where there is a great wildlife park. Very nice hotel and they also have houses on the grounds.

Oooh - all sounds great ! Will check those places out!
