Turtle Beach Barbados - any good?

thinking of going here next May with ds age 5.

Anyone recommend it?

Yes, I can recommend it. We've been there 5 or 6 times, since DCs were small.

Lovely hotel, not too big, and very family oriented - no young, free singles, no disco, etc. Staff are, in the main, very good.

Food is good. 3 restaurants to choose from, one of which is adults and children 12+ only.

Good kids club, if you need that, and they also offer babysitting if you want an evening just with your DH/DP.

Hotel is right on the beach, but also has 2 lovely pools and a separate children's pool. However, south coast means that the sea is rarely calm - which means you have to be vigilant with little ones.

The reason for the mozzies was the re-development of Casaurina Beach hotel, which is next door. That should be finished now, so the mozzies will be no more. Apart from that year, we have never had a problem with mozzies.

We usually book with Virgin, as the flights are great and the DCs are really treated well. They provide a good service via their reps too, and also do a great check-in at the hotel on your last day - the flight home is in the late afternoon, so they check you in and take your luggage in the morning, leaving you to enjoy your time at the hotel. Then they pick you up and deliver you to the airport with only a short time to wait for the flight.

Casuarina beach was where were s'posed to have gone, but they hadn't finished building it refurbishing it, so we ended up at the Almond Beach Village. A lot further up the coast.

Agree about the Virgin stuff. We always use them too and do the Twilight check-in at Gatwick the night before and travel up to the airport with hand luggage only and avoid all the check in queues on the day of departure. Fan-bloomin-tastic!!

yes we are looking at Virgin for the same reasons - do you think mid May is ok a time to go - cant go before which I prefer

Great time to go, before the hurricane season gets underway and won't be too humid either.

We went to Almond Beach the first time we went to Barbados and although we enjoyed it, Turtle Beach is much nicer - much more about families and smaller. Housekeeping and general upkeep/maintenance is much better too.

You can still use the Virgin Atlantic check-in chill out service at participating Caribbean hotels without having to book a Virgin Holiday. It is a Virgin Atlantic service.

We are looking at Turtle Beech or the Bouganvillea for Christmas. We don't want AI so that might rule Turtle Beech out. TBH all hotels looking good .
