Eating out in Paris

Dh is taking me to Paris as a 40th birthday present . The hotel is taking up most of our budget, so I'd appreciate some tips for good places to eat that won't make our eyes water when the bill is presented.

Aunt has suggested the area around the Sorbonne for good, cheap food. Any other good places? Our hotel is in the 2nd arrondissement, near the Place Vendome.

TIA.

We ate at Restaurant du Palais Royal, 10 Galerie de Valois, 1st arrondissement (Phone: 011 33 1 40 20 00 27). Was a hidden gem - even the taxi driver wasn't entirely sure where the street was! We ate outside on the terrace - with a view of the gardens - for our wedding anniversary and it was just perfect. It wasn't a bargain but it wasn't eye-wateringly expensive either.

We had a fab meal at le coupe chou in St Germain. We also stayed near Place Vendome. Restaurant is lovely, typically French, hearty fare, reasonable price with a good wine list.

Rue de pot de fer (or something like that is where we head to. Heaving with lovely cheap restaurants!
