Saltwell Park in Gateshead is lovely just a few miles from Newcastle City Centre, has a really nice cafe and a little farm area with guinea pigs/rabbits/birds

Jesmond Dene is lovely for woodland walks, also has a small farm (much better than the one at saltwell), just outside the city centre

Tynemouth beach is really nice if you get good weather - you can get the metro there from Newcastle city centre

Discovery Museum is excellent for little ones if the weather is poor - it's right in the city centre but does get pretty busy at weekends

Don't really know any soft play areas but hope the rest of the info helps
