Cheap & cheerful short break in the UK for Oct half term?

Any ideas?

Will be taking a 4 yr old and 7 month old, possibly alone (if Dh can take time off work he migth come, too).

Our neighbours went to Northumberland in May 1/2 term and enjoyed it so much plan to return in October 1/2 term! Their kids are slightly older but it is still a fab part of country. Apparently loads of cool halloween stuff on in oct. I suppose it depends where you are and how far you want to travel too.
