Internal Flights in Australia

Do any of you know of any cheap deals for internal flights within Australia? We're likely to be over there next July (work related) and would like tpo take the opportunity to see tghe country a bit. Friends have said that internal flights are extortionate, but surely there must be cheap deals available as it's such a mecca for backpackers?

Virgin Blue do good deals, as do Jetstar (Qantas cheapie offspring). Always worth checking out. Virgin Blue are good for kids, as they do face painting, etc...
