hi!

me and dh are trying to think of somewhere we can go for a weekend break, just the 2 of us. because its a weekend we dont want to spend too much time travelling, so im thinking newcastle sort of area, not really much more south than that. would ideally like to go somewhere with a train station (i LOVE train journeys!)

any suggestions very welcomed

ps dont want to go anywhere too isolated or quiet

TIA!

As far as I know it's very nice but not too hot on the nightlife front, Blu

elliot whats morpeth and alnmouth like? do they have nice pubs and a couple of places to eat?

even just a nice hotel, if the hotel is nice enough might persuade dh to stay in the room all weekend! but then that might be down to me, not the hotel iyswim

Morpeth - small market town. Quite pretty. Yes there would be places to eat but nothing too fantastic quality wise.
Alnmouth - even smaller place on the coast. Lovely scenery and walks but I get the impression that's not really your thing....
Try googling to look for hotels or restaurants.

Waterford Lodge in Morpeth, used to drink there every Friday, but from what I saw when I was in Morpeth last month it has gone a lot more up market.

Queens Head in Morpeth

What about Alnwick?

lumley castle in durham (Chester le street) medieval, staff in costume, big banquets, spectacular rooms - look on the internet

Ripley Castle just outside Harrogate.

Is Blackpool too far? If you're looking for somewhere a little quiter Lytham St Annes is nice.

Also, how about Littondale in the Yorkshire Dales? littondale website

It is absoltely gorgeous - I used to live there. Got a few pubs within short drives too! If you have quite a bit of a buget, stay at Amerdale House in Arncliffe - about £80 per night - u get breakfast and 5 course dinner within that price.
