Kos (Kardamena maybe?)

We are looking at going to Kos early next June.

I know that Kardamena is the 18-30s resort on the island but it seems the cheapest place to go and we are in our mid 20s with no kids so it should be fine...

Is it vile though? I do not like Magaluf but have been to Ayia Napa out of season and it was fab and not too crazy just lots of bars.

Other people have said that Kardamena is very quiet anyway.

Any other Kos recommendations? Cheers!

Kardamena is great, i had a great girlie holiday there when in my late twenties!! I would agree that it is nothing like Magaluf, etc. The main street had a really good mix of bars, etc, all leading down to a lovely long beach with restaurants, tavernas etc. Kos town is great to visit at night also. I definatly prefered Kos to Crete and Rhodes, erverwhere was just smaller and more compact iwswim? Go for it, i would go back tomorrow for a child free holiday, given the opportunity!

Meant to say, i remember there being young couples there also, not just all groups etc

I lived there for a while as a holiday rep and would say it's ok but it's trashy and would holiday somewhere else tbh

I've been - I visited a friend of mine who went on a girly holiday and met a bloke and stayed the summer to work in a bar.

There is a town square which is full of bars and the like. It's not as tacky as some 18-30 holidays but I have two DC's and there's no way on earth I would chose it as a family holiday destination.

All teenage girls with their boobs out and fishbowls.

No, you can definitely find better. Have you thought about Zakynthos (lovely) or Kephalonia?

Not sure how they compare price wise.

We booked a holiday to Kos in one of those last minute deals where the resort is allocated on arrival. Of course, we ended up in Kardamena but luckily for us our accommodation was situated on the outskirts. We ventured into Kardamena once and once was enough. It was awful!

However from memory the seafront was nice enough and our hotel was one of a few situated outside the resort so we could keep our distance from the club 18-30 crowd.

It depends what you want really. We quite enjoyed watching the drunken kids lurching around, and of course they were too hungover by day to take up space around the pool.

Sycamoretree we have been to Zante a few times so am looking to branch out. Would not be a family holiday we have no children.

I am considering Kefalonia as well though, any recommendations?

Twims was it like Laganas do you know? Am not hugely keen on Laganas.

We usually spend the day by the pool, have a couple of days out and go out for a meal and a drink in the evening. Nothing exciting or cultured tbh.

We do tend to go for touristy type places we have been to Kalamaki and Argassi in Zante, Alcudia in Majorca etc.

On a whole I prefer Rhodes to Kos but thought Kardamena alot better/nicer than Falakrapi

alibo · 25/05/2009 19:46

Mmmm.... maybe Kardamena has changed a bit! I can recommend Lindos in Rhodes for couples, (would def. avoid Faliraki). Lindos has great restaurants, some great bars and good beaches, and you don't get groups of teens holidaying there.

Stilla · 26/05/2009 00:27

Have to agree alibo Lindos is great - its nowhere near 18-30's stylee but it does have great nightlife ,restaurants and beaches.

smurfgirl · 26/05/2009 20:08

Thank you I will look into Lindos, its hard to know which resort is quiet and which resort is totally dead iykwim!

Lindos gets VERY busy during the day as it is a popular day trip for people staying in other resorts.

At night its busy but not overly so - a good mix of clubs (double doored so no noise from them) lively bars and quiet bars .

If you do pick Lindos make sure you pack some flat shoes as 'donkey corner' can be rather dangerous after a few drinks .......I swear they polish the stones to make them extra slippy !
