Package holidays with kids

My second attempt at posting this, mumsnet ate the last one.

I have been on loads of package holidays pre-kid, but since having my ds we've always either gone camping or to France with my dad and stayed in a lovely gite. Sadly my dad died three months ago, and we have decided to go on a package holiday, mainly because I have no energy to research separate flights and accommodation. Anyway, thanks to dad leaving me a little money we have decided to go away for two weeks in a nice four star hotel, probably in Turkey. There are few places we can fly to directly from Cork, so our choise is limited, especially since we don't really want to go to Spain/ Lanzarote etc. Anyway, I've just realised that while all the hotels have kid's clubs, there is no babysitting available. So, what do people do with their kids on a package holiday? My ds is eight, and will be delighted to saty up to all hours, but is this the done thing? I'm guessing its that, or sit on the balcony missing out on the fun at the bar? I want this to be a fun holiday for us all. Do I need to bite the bullet and make my own arrangements? I've looked at Club Med type places, and the prices have made me gasp. I'm prepared to splash out a bit on this holiday, but there seems to be a massive price gap to get a place with any child care at all. Do I just need to resign myself to a quiet drink on the balcony every evening? That might be all I'm capable of, but I always enjoyed getting gently sloshed at the hotel bar. Any advice / experience appreciated.

Anyone? Maybe I should have put this in AIBU. AIBU in wanting a little bit of time out from my kid without spending ?4k on Club Med?

Your child will be welcomed everywhere in Turkey, whatever the hour.
Ours came everywhere with us in the evening, restaurants and bars and we all had a wonderful time.
Mind you, I'm not big on routine at the best of times.

at his age he will probably be out with you in the bars in the evening anyway.

not sure i'd get a baby sitter abroad though.

went to first choice holiday village turkey last year who arranged babysitting. but also they had late kids clubs - pyjama parties
8 - 11pm. watching dvds etc.

have a lovely time.
