Help! Going to Italy in the morning, hiring a car and not sure if I have the right driving license!

Hope someone can help. We have booked a hire car for Italy where we fly out in the morning.

We only have the old paper UK driving licenses. Is this still ok for hiring a car in Europe or should we have got the photo ID ones?!

but DH already makes the best Tiramisu there is! (Italian chef)
