Heligan Gardens - worth a visit?

I'll be in Devon this summer, 65 miles away from Heligan. According to the route planner its 90min journey. I've always fancied going here after seeing a programme on the TV years ago. Is it worth that much of a drive on a week's holiday?

I haven't been to Heligan for years - my bro used to live in Mevagissey so visited quiet a bit in the early years. I enjoyed it very much but that was pre children and driving down the road to get there.

Where abouts in Devon will you be?

Have you been to the Eden project?

I'll be staying at River Dart Park, so near Ashburton. I haven't been to the Eden projest but don't fancy it as much.

Yes!! It is STUNNING! took dd1 there when she was about 18 months old and she loved it too. i reckon i enjoyed it more than the eden project but they're different things really. hard to compare. but i think it's definitely worth a visit, esp. the jungle garden. lots of bridges and little paths that kids will love.

We did Heligan and the Eden Project about 7 years ago - loved both, but Heligan was probably better (even though it rained the whole time we were there !).

Definitely worth the trip - enjoy!

We went to Heligan a few years back when on Holiday. DS was about 2/3, I went with my Mum, and enjoyed it more than Eden.

It's such a beautiful place to walk around and DS enjoyed running around the gardens.

Would highly recommend it. I have a lovely memory of me and my Mum going through some of the secret doors and wondering where we'd end up

Yes we thought it was amazing. eden project was impressive and huge but very commercial and pretty cheesy in parts - and annoyingly preachy - while Heligan was just quiet and had a weird feeling of secret magic about it.

Yes it's wonderful.

And go down to Gorran Haven for a paddle and an ice-cream afterwards.

Great, will add it to the list of places to go. Thanks.
