i am trying to get some decent priced flights to go to gran canaria and visit my niece for half term. going 23rd coming back 1st june.

really want to go as school have incet day on the monday and means we can go for 9 days.

the prices are a joke - more than i would pay for a holiday. its for ds 7 and me.

can anyone recommend a cheap flight site.

thanks

no, i can't. but don't make the mistake I did.
went with easyjet for "cheap" flights and ended up having to pay £15 for each item of baggage and ridiculous prices for food/drink during flight.

should have stuck with BA. more money upfront, but at least you get a decent service

ThePhantomPlopper · 17/05/2009 21:01

£788 with Easy Jet. Good God.

I think you're going to have fork out I'm afraid.

I'll have another look for you.

ThePhantomPlopper · 17/05/2009 21:05

The cheapest i can find is £303 for both of you and that's from Glasgow, the 2nd cheapest is £550 from Manchester then you're looking at £700(ish) again.

saggyhairyarse · 17/05/2009 21:22

Where do you want to fly from?

saggyhairyarse · 17/05/2009 21:51

If you search with Teletext, you can book a package holiday for £292pp flying from Gatwick for 7 nights but you just don't use the accomodation.

kylesmyloveheart · 17/05/2009 22:39

sorry didnt see this earlier - the prices are crazy.

we live in west london so can go from heathrow (i wish its only 5 minutes away lol) gatwick, luton or at a push stansted?

do you think they might come down later in the week. can resign myself to going and get packing if flights arent booked.

thanks for anyone who can help

Find our your neices location and then Google Earth to get an idea of distance

This is my local travel agent:

www.travelhousepackageholidays.co.uk

which had some good package deals.

kylesmyloveheart · 18/05/2009 13:10

We tried to go with Easy Jet to Majorca at Easter the flights were costing about £1500 for 4 of us. It was more than renting our holiday villa. We cancelled in the end.

Have you looked at Skyscanner.net?

I find BA cheaper when booking in advance usually. Have just booked flights to Rome for next March and they are £200 return for both of us. It was £240 with Easy Jet.

BUT have just got to two return flights to Majorca in August for £189 with Easy Jet. Bargain!

thisisyesterday · 18/05/2009 19:05

i don't doubt it misssunny, in fact, I think ryanair are the worst for it aren't they?

my point was that I would go with BA over any of the cheaper airlines, in my case that had happened to be easyjet, but I certainly wouldn't be booking with any of them without first finding out all the hidden costs that they don't mention when you book

can you tell i am still bitter?
I booked with expedia, so had no idea that there might be extra charges.
I guess I should have checked the easyjet website as well, but didn't think i'd need to.

we only found out about the baggage when we phoned expedia about something else and the guy asked if we'd booked our luggage allowance in advance.

Have you tried looking for flights not on the weekend? For example, if you don't need to come back until 1st June you could look for a flight out on thursday 22nd May, giving you 10 days, or wait until Tuesday 26th May, still giving you nearly a week.

When we go away during a half term holiday we always travel really early on the Friday the schools break up and find this lets us book a lot more cheaply.

kylesmyloveheart · 21/05/2009 01:46

thanks i managed to get it for £400 on tuesday. prices had come down over night as i looked everywhere before then and the cheapest was £750+.

we are off on sunday and come back following monday. and ds gets to play in his tournament saturday so is a very happy footballer indeed.
