Packing for Travel with 14 mo DS

Our family is going to France next week for a month . I've got some idea of what to take - i.e. travel cot, portable high chair, etc. But what I'd like to know is what are some things that you really wished you'd packed but didn't.

We're taking the ferry and have an estate + roof box so we've got some space but by the time we're done packing the stroller, baby backpack, etc. we probably won't have much space left.

We'll be staying in cottages/apartments some of which will have baby equipment, some won't.

Thanks for the ideas!

A blow-up beach ball - can be played with inside and out. Wouldn't worry too much - the very large supermarkets sell everything you need.

Take a picnic rug - uses up no space and is really useful especially if you get one that has a waterproof backing, just in case the gound is damp. We always travel with one when we drive to France, and it's always used.

We also bought a plug-in cool box for the trip last summer - great for keeping drinks and snacks cool when you are off for the day, and also for packing shopping in before you get it 'home' - it does take up space but we don't have an estate, and do have two DC plus a roof box, and we fitted it in the boot (make sure your boot has a cigarette-lighter type plug, AND REMEMBER TO UNPLUG IT IF THE CAR IS STATIONARY FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME!) It can drain your battery otherwise. Have a fab time, sure you'll love it
