Need a week somewhere in Europe but we are trying to find somewhere peaceful and quiet where we can relax on beach/by pool and not do much else. No kids! Anyone have any ideas? I dont know where to start!

side in turkey lovely

PortoPandemico · 12/05/2009 13:08

Budget?

Directskiandsun · 12/05/2009 16:16

We love Kefalonia and after recommending it to my brother and his wife, they have spent three separate weeks at the 9 Muses hotel (one of them, their honeymoon). They love it - very peaceful, lovely staff, immaculate rooms

WowOoo · 12/05/2009 16:17

You lucky, lucky people!

Corsica, Sardinia, France? Would go back to these places givenhalf the chance.

Directskiandsun · 12/05/2009 16:19

Just looked up the link in case it's of interest here

BlingDreaming · 12/05/2009 16:40

Budget is key.

We love Greece. If you stay on the mainland you can find lovely self catering places that are extremely well priced (depending on when you're going). And the mainland tends to be quieter with less huge groups.

This website has always been good I've found.

PortoPandemico · 12/05/2009 20:27

I'd like to go here if money/children weren't a question

PortoPandemico · 12/05/2009 20:30

Or maybe here...

janmoomoo · 13/05/2009 10:05

Thanks all. Getting excited now! They look gorgous porto. Directski - will check out your links when I get home as it keeps crashing my work computer (very hot firewall!). Love Kephalonia tho, and was thinking of there. Would quite like somewhere that we dont have to hire car and can get easily from airport.

Also thinking of Red Sea but dont want to do one of those big hotels this time. Or Ibiza? But where is good for a chilled quiet time there anyone know?

Budget £1000 - £1200 for the week probably. Be nice to get a deal - planning to go 12 June so getting to be last minute!

Recs for specific hotels are v helpful.

janmoomoo - it's one of those webpages with music and tings, so that's probably why. I've just had a look to see of there was another link, but found a set of reviews which may be interesting here - hope this works! I have absolutely nothing to do with this hotel, by the way, just had very good reports from family and it seems to suit what you are looking for - hope so!

newgirl · 13/05/2009 10:11

janmoomoo · 13/05/2009 14:14

Thanks.

Newgirl - Greece would be good - any where specific you can think of that I could research?

If you are thinking of Egypt can thoroughly recommend the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh here in Hurghada. Soooo relaxing, not many kids (we took DS1 there age 8 months but he was one of only about 4 kids there).

Not near any nightlife though but fabulous restaurants in hotel.

Egg · 13/05/2009 14:25

If you do like the look of the Oberoi try to book through Longwood holidays as they have always worked out cheapest for us. Just checked price for 12 June for 1 week and only £700 (it is a 5 star hotel so this is a v good price!).

newgirl · 13/05/2009 14:39

you could look on the specialplacestostay website for greece and you can find some gorgeous adult places to stay not expensive - if you like small hotels or more authentic places - you could get a taxi from athens airport. we once did a 3 hour taxi journey and it cost 80 quid - it was fine as we were sharing it, but just saying that you dont have to hire a car

or the islands - santorini? crete?

some of the package deals can be amazing. we went to mark warner in greece - san agostino - and i think on their website you can find adult only weeks

if you do go to a hotel then there will be lots of kids but at san agostino for example, the beach is so big you can find a quiet spot to yourselves. they coach you there so you dont need a car. you can do tennis if you like that sort of thing. for all inclusive no more than 500 each and probably less if you book quite late - 399 pretty common. they have two pools - one for adults only.

Sunshinemummy · 13/05/2009 14:52

janmoomoo we stayed here in Ibiza on my friends' honeymoon and it was wonderful.

Sunshinemummy · 13/05/2009 14:52

This is a better link hotel

janmoomoo · 13/05/2009 19:54

OMG! These places are gorgeous! Oberoi looks beautiful, as does the one in Ibiza. Will check the specialplacestostay, sounds good.

I will need several weeks at this rate!

Snatorini is the most beautiful place too - especially the village of Oia. We tried to get a room in thishotel when we went but it was booked up.

This website has some gorgeous other options.

We stayed here in one of the top floor apartments and it was gorgeous.

Other Greek island recommendation would be Hydra. You can get there on the hydrofoil out of Piraeus. It's a really unusual island in that there are only two motorised vehicles on there which are the island rubbish trucks. Everything else is done via donkey. It's an island Athenians use for holidays so there aren't a lot of Englishe people there. The Bratsera is considered the best hotel on the island (or was when we went there a few years ago).

Sunshinemummy · 14/05/2009 10:30

And the other place I would mention is Tuscany which is just gorgeous. We hired a villa but am sure there are loads of lovely hotels if you do a search.

Blu · 14/05/2009 10:48

Have a look at the Simply TRavel website..lots of quiet villas and apartment and you get free car hire n lots of the deals.

mosschops30 · 14/05/2009 10:54

What about Lake Garda, Italy. We went as a group of adults last June and it was beautiful.
Totally geared towards an adult holiday, small cobbled streets of little bars and restaurants, temperature was amazing.
No beach, but we swam in the Lake which was lovely.
We paid £100 each for the flights with BA, and then about £100 a night for posh boutique hotel.
Would love to go again minus dc's

newgirl · 14/05/2009 11:56

thanks sunshine mummy - i have noted all those places as we want to go there in the summer!

ps mark warner has 2 for 1 deals in may and june - a great deal - corsica is included. for that price you could hire a car and explore a bit too. we went there - great beach and you can do a half day walk to a waterfall - which we swam in - a small quiet mark warner so a good choice
