DVD players for rear facing car seat

I am going on a long motorway car journey this weekend with my 9 mo. He is an absolute nightmare in the car and the further we go the worse the hysterics get. I have my doubts about whether it is safe to put a portable dvd player on the rear headrests for a rear facing seat - or can you buy special attachments? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Get one of these It really does work (for a bit)
My sister got one for us, and i was a bit wouldn't you just pick them up if they were crying..? but for the car... invaluable!

Otherwise, we keep my 9mth old going with
-food: rice cakes, hipp rusk things, raisins
-drinks: he is bf but will play with pour all over himself a tommee tippee cup of water

  • new toys he hasn't seen before
-small books -always has to have something to hold now to go off to sleep, I find

and if all else fails, I sit in the back next to him and entertain with peekaboo etc. tbh I have only just moved to the front - would def consider sitting next to him for a long motorway journey!

DVD player sounds like good idea - don't know how they work in the car though? presumably they work for a bit then stop. Nice to have in your arsenal (we used one on a flight with our 15mth old dd - brill)! Was going to say 'do 9mths watch DVDs?' then realised my 9mth was happily gazing dd's Pingu DVD right now

(Btw don't know if you have other kids but ddd is now 3 and totally happy to chill and daydream in car-seat)

Thanks Umlella for the advice. This is my first baby so I'm glad for any help. I know I will have to sit in the back with him but as I get really car sick I don't know which of us will be worse off. He's not interested in Tv unless it's In the Night Garden which he will watch for ages - so was sort of hoping that would work. I'm off to buy an arsenal of finger food instead to keep him occupied.
