South Coast holiday fun

I'm thinking a holiday on the south coast this year with DD1 (3yrs) and dd2 (1.5 yrs), oh & DH Am thinking of a base around Weymouth area - any recommendations for things to do or places to stay. My preference is for self catering...any ideas welcome.

I live further over the other way (towards Portsmouth) so know about more things this way.

thank you, dh likes the sound of Birdworld but think that he is envisaging a different kind of entertainment

Lyme Regis has a fabulous lifeboat day, which the red arrows attend.
Fishing (beach casting at night with a nice crackling fire going).
Oh dear, have just noticed your LO's ages, might be a bit young yet.
Bridport leisure centre has the warmest pool we have ever used
