Toddler who screams in the car

My 18 month will only sleep in the car if it's past bedtime and we've done bath, bottle, gro-bag etc prior to getting in the car. On a recent daytime journey she only slept for 45 mins and screamed for 2 hours until she was sick.

We really want to have some trips in the UK and poss France or Belgium but the night time travelling is so limiting.

During the day she will only sleep in a cot, at home or travel cot, and never in her pushchair. If we were to stay in a hotel she couldn't have a nap on check out day and we couldn't do the post bath travelling at night.

Any advice or do we stay at home for the remainder of the toddler years?

No idea but mine is the same and has been since birth. She is now 3.5. She is something okay with a DVD on but anything past 2 hours is impossible. Sympathies.

We are holidaying in a carvan 1.5 hours from home

You have my sympathy! DD used to be like that. She is now 3.10 and is getting much better but still nowhere that I'd risk a long trip (longer then 1 hour).

I found singing helped, she now takes a little bag with drawing stuff and does that for a while or we chat...

Thanks both for your replies. It's good to know I'm not alone. I read about these parents who travel all over with their little ones and wonder how they do it.

Luckily we live near a ferry port so maybe hols just over the channel are the answer.

We're off to a caravan park 1.5 hours from home too this year! Our wings are well and truely clipped.
