We love mazes! Tell me where to get lost.....

DSs aged 6 and 4 are terribly excited by mazes. I am terribly excited by any activity which gets boys running around outside in the fresh air.

We have been to Hampton Court Palace (a bit small, not much of a challenge even for beginners) and Leeds Castle in Kent (fab, hard and with an underground tunnel as its way out). The Leeds Castle ticket lets you in for 12 months so we will go back there as it was not too cheap.

Any other suggestions? Near south west London is great, but they were happy with nearly 2 hours in the car to get to Leeds Castle, so all ideas are welcome!

A bit later in the summer, you should look for Maize Mazes: try here for some from last year.

I couldn't get the link to work, but I remember reading about them, and they sounded great. Thanks, I'll look out for those.

The Maize Mazes are good fun - they usually grow them in a different theme each year. Plus some do tractor rides & play parks (slides, swings etc) or a petting zoo type thingy

Hever castle has two mazes and mine loved the water maze see here.

I'm not sure if North Warwickshire is any good for you, but there are loads of mazes here. I can really recommend it, we had a great day there.

No use for a day trip as way too far for you, but somewhere to bear in mind if holidaying in the Uk and fancy a maze.

Try The Forbidden Corner in North Yorkshire. Fab place to get lost in

Lilymaid · 05/05/2009 15:36

This is a really long list of mazes.

fridayschild · 05/05/2009 20:57

This is great. I can see we will be visiting plenty of long lost cousins on our maze hunt this summer. Thanks very much everyone, especially the gerbil for her persistence!

Alice in Wonderland maze is great as it has book related clues to get through it and a (very small) theme park.

Washersaurus · 05/05/2009 21:42

Ooooh there is a whole collection of mazes for you at Plantasia

kiwibella · 08/05/2009 16:09

my kids loved the water maze at Hever too! During the summer there are all sorts of events on. We were there on a jousting day... lotsa fun.

blowninonabreeze · 08/05/2009 16:14

longleat has a great maze but££

i used to love ragley hall in warwickshire as a kidd but not been back in years

SomeGuy · 08/05/2009 21:29

You can get Longleat on Tesco vouchers (£6.50 = £26 worth bloody hell), as you can Hever (nice - it has two mazes, water and hedge).

Any idea how to get discount tickets for Leeds Castle?

pigleychez · 10/05/2009 16:40

There's a good Maize Maze in the summer at Millets Farm Centre, a few miles south of Oxford. And I hear that the York Maze is very good (again, you'd have to wait until summer).

PortAndLemon · 10/05/2009 16:55

And the Dragonfly Maze in Bourton-on-the-Water is fun (although not huge, so probably not worth a trip just for the maze; there's quite a lot else to do in the area, though).
