What do you think the chances are of getting a good last minute deal (shorthaul) during the summer hols?

I've heard that holiday companies are likely to reduce their prices as people are tending to not want to go abroad this summer (due to exchange rate etc) so are more likely to holiday in the UK.

Do you think this will mean there will be some good last minute deals? I'm thinking along the lines of a self-catering apartment/villa in somewhere like Spain, Portugal, Greece etc.

As DP is self-employed and can take holiday whenever he wants we're not tied to a specific week (so could be flexible on dates to some extent) but it would need to be in the school hols.

Are we likely to get a good deal do you think?

bargain....it can be done

oh and that was booked on a thursday travelled on the following tuesday(we were meant to be camping but the weather forecast put us off)

sorry hockeypuck, I had to go and stay at my parents urgently.
I had written some stuff down if youre still interested?
Can you be more specific about costs, reasonable to one person is most defiately not reasonable to another person

chatee - thats a good deal, wss it ok? Costa Daurada (Salou in particular) is not the nicest place Ive ever been to. What did you think of it?

mosschops30 · 07/05/2009 17:30

also agree with misssunny about flights, we looked for flights to Turkey about 3 months ago for august, flight only was over 1k for the 4 of us!!!!

Hi mosschops - no problem at all, jut grateful someone is more inclined to look for stuff than I am

Well, price is difficult because I genuinely have no idea what things are meant to cost, we haven't had a proper holiday for years while the kids have been small.

How much I'm prepared to pay depends on how much it's worth as a bargain. So I wouldn't want to pay much for a not very nice place, I'd want it to be a bragain place, but I'd be prepared to pay more for somewhere really special that had an offer on so was good value for money. Sorry, that's a crap answer isn't it?

I would though like it to be at least 3 star equivalent, with bed space for 4 people, balcony and pool. I don't mind about AI or self catering or in between the two as long as it is a good deal.

Apologies for vagueness - I'm clueless about stuff!

Don;t know if this appeals hockey but the Lake Garda holiday I referred to is half board and just over a grand for all four of us in August. Hotel allocated on arrival but even so seems like the bargain of the century to me given that most Italian Lakes hols I've seen ar around the £500pp mark!
