We're going nessie hunting on loch ness today with a very excited 4 year old. What do we need to take for ultimate excitement?

He's really into dinosaurs.
We've done a quick google for images.

Now how do i get the most excitement out of him without actually frightening him so he doesn't want to go near the loch.

Suggestions?

(can you tell i'm excited too? )

One of you wander off and plant a 'footprint' in mud for him to 'find'.

Do like Billy Connelly and hide 'dinosaur eggs' - an avocado or something - where he can find them.

A disposable camera?

Food for Nessie, that he can share

snigger · 01/05/2009 09:40

And he'll need a stick, for the poking of the dead stuff and muck.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 01/05/2009 09:41

woah, brilliant ideas!!!!

we often leave m&ms for ET in the woods so some nessie food will work.

will find some nessie eggs.

And if he does get scared, cover his face with Nessie Lotion, (sun cream - not that you'd ordinarily have that on your person in Inverness in May) that makes him invisible to dinosaurs.

The lies I'm encouraging you to spout to your infant

Hope you have a great day!

nessie lotion!

maybe i'll tell him if he eats his veg then nessie won't like the smell of him and won't eat him.

Thanks for the ideas.
He's going to love it.

Of course he did. Oh, and BTW, the loch ness monster is a she. She's called Nessie

nevergoogledragonbutter · 01/05/2009 18:42

yes, she, sorry.

actually forgot to do the footprint etc. he was quite happy with the binoculars.

we suggested nessie might be sleeping. cue much shouting 'wake up monster' from the car.

was such a lovely day today even though a bit wet. he loved it.

You need to tell him that Nessie doesn't like it when there is lots of tourists around. She only shows herself to scots

nevergoogledragonbutter · 01/05/2009 18:47

yes, i think we were shown the tourist prices for lunch too. felt i should have some sort of scottish passport to show them, then they'd show me the 'actual' price list.
grrr

OH no, it doesn't matter if you're scots or not at that place, the prices are extortionate, and the exhibitions are pricey as well.
Are you holidaying up there?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 01/05/2009 18:51

Visiting family. I know the area pretty well, but the kids rarely get up here so it's nice to show them around.
Nice change from Devon.

Glen Affric and Glen Cannich are lovely, especially at this time of year.

Just popped in on your thread as we are going up to Scotland in the summer, can't wait.
But I couldn't help it.... I just googled dragon butter, eeeeeewwwwww!!!!

nevergoogledragonbutter · 01/05/2009 19:34

hmm, my new name isn't really working is it.

sorry

OP posts:
Poppity · 01/05/2009 19:45

I wouldn't say that, it just has a 'made you look, made you stare....' quality

Serves me right really, you told me not to!

nevergoogledragonbutter · 01/05/2009 19:48

i like being a tourist here.

Nessie spotting is great fun, glad your DS had fun...and you by the sound of it!

Poppity · 01/05/2009 19:57

I'm so excited, we're camping, bit scared of the midges though.
Hope you have a lovely rest-of-your-holiday.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 01/05/2009 23:24

Avon skin so soft in the palegreen bottle. it works. Don't buy it from a gift shop up there though, they will charge you more!

nevergoogledragonbutter · 04/05/2009 20:44

i'll need to get regular deliveries of the stuff.
where's the cheapest?
