UV sun tents

We are going to the Red Sea with DS who will be 14 months in June. It is hot but also very windy, so had considered getting a big uv shelter to use as both a windbreak and to keep DS out of the sun. A friend told me not to waste my money as DS would never go in it...anyone?

Have to say that we got a small uv shelter/tent and DS was fine in there with some toys for distraction (also good for sleeping too) but it wasn't big enough for adults to get in properly - we'd just crouch down or lie half in/half out! Now that DS is older (2 and a bit) he loves it as a tent/den . A friend got a larger one and I did wonder if I should have too (so that we could get inside with DS) but now that he loves it as a den, I don't mind!
The Red Sea in June, will be hot, hot, hot so I would really recommend getting something if you are planning on being outside on the beach for any length of time. My experience of the Red Sea in the summer is that it is usually toooo hot to be outside at times - especially for a young child, so you may find that you can do without as you'll be in and out a lot. Just make sure you have an umbrella and most of the beaches now provide them, along with the straw(?) windbreakers and sun loungers. I'd definitely make sure you have something for the buggy if you're using one tho - maybe one of those shade-a-babe things. We used a Rayshade as DS didn't like being coccooned in and it worked really well (he was about 14/15mths at the time). Enjoy your hol!

we used a small uv tent from Verbauadet which is excellent. We put our cool bags in it to weight down the sides & it offers a good amount of shade. Both my DD's have been in it fine (age when used 11 mths & crawling, 23 mths & walking) I like to sit in it too, to escape the sun !
