Hi
I am flying with my 3 month old next week, and have 2 hours in HK airport (airside) - does anyone have any experience/tips for me? I will be on my own - kind of looking for a friendly cafe or perhaps even a parents centre or room. I am flying Air NZ - not sure which terminal I will be in. Any advice appreciated!

If you only have 2 hours between your plane landing and then taking off, you'll end up with about an hour in the airport by the time you've got off and then on again!

HK airport has 2 terminals, I think you'll be in terminal 1. There is a kids play area between gates 23 and 25, though your child is a bit young for that! There are lots of nursing rooms around. Look at www.hongkongairport.com for a guide to the aiport! It's very shiny and new with lots of cafes etc so you shouldn't have a problem for an hour or so.

what day are flying? I'm on NZ038 from Heathrow to Auckland via HK on 28/04. I did this same flight last Nov and unfortunately it gets into HK really early in local time and not many of the shops etc are open, its basically quite deserted. I wasn't hungry then either so didn't bother trying to find a cafe or anything so didn't notice what food places were open either. It is very new and spacious however, and pleasant to spend a hr or so in, once you gone through security when you get off the plane. It has free wifi too.

Snap!
I will be the one looking panicked with a small baby on my own... are you travelling with a baby/child too? I have requested a bassinet, so fingers crossed that comes through - they won't confirm until we check in though.
Bit nervous, but can't wait to get home.

oh i will keep an eye out for you! I'm travelling alone, have a 6yo who needs to go to school and I'm not crazy enough to travel long haul with my 2yo! I'll be in premium economy which I'm (almost) looking forward to...!

You should be fine with a 3mth old though, we took DD1 to Australia and NZ at 4mths of age and she was fine, babies are so easy to travel with, they can't move around and generally sleep a lot. (Admittedly Dh came too so there was the two of us) A friend of mine came to London from Australia on her own with her 10mth at the time and she coped fine too.

Am sure you'll be able to get a bassinet, we never had any probs on any of our trips. It is gruelling though, so try and get plenty of rest before you fly (As much as you can, with a 3mth old!)
