Dubai with Kids?

Anyone been to Dubai and have any thoughts?

Thinking of going with Virgin with our DD of 5 and DS of 14 months later this summer. Know nothing about Dubai (need to get going with the research) so have no idea about whether it is child friendly or not.

some hotels are very child friendly so you need to have a good look at the brochures to see which ones suit you best.
I would however warn that the summer, ie July and August will be unbearably hot so you need to take that into account. Also, be careful if you are thinking of going around ramadam as a lot of restaurants will be shut during the day then and you can't really eat and drink in public as muslims fast during daylight during ramadam. Not sure of exact dates as it changes every year but I think it starts around mid August and lasts a month so you should check that.

I was accidentally in Dubai (long story) for one day with our (then) 7-month-old and 2-year-old last July. It was hell on earth. Horrifically hot, looked like one big dusty building site, apparently very expensive. Personally I couldn't think of a worse place to take children. I do have friends who live there with children and I am sure there's plenty to do but for a holiday somewhere like Thailand or Malaysia would surely be more pleasant?
