I have booked flights for dp(dh) and I to go to NYC after our wedding. I have booked my flight in my current name, as this is the name on my passport... is this ok?

yes providing you keep your passport in your maiden name

SoupDragon · 21/04/2009 15:45

Yes. After all, you don't have to change your name at all.

AnnieShamrockInYourEar · 21/04/2009 15:45

definitely. it has to be the name on your passport
Congrats btw

geordieminx · 21/04/2009 15:49

This is the sort of thing that comes to me at 2am. I am one of lifes' worriers!

there is nothing legally requiring you to pick on your wedding day which you use and then never being able to change your mind or mix and match. so you can keep your maiden name on your passport just for honeymoon, or forever, or change whenever you want. or you can use married name 'socially' but keep documents in maiden name. you just have to make sure that the name on your passport always matches the name on your tickets.

There's also nothing stopping you blagging upgrades! We got a bottle of bubbly and two glasses on our honeymoon (there were no spare seats in business) - and then we got varioulos bottles of bubbly and room upgrades while we toured SOuth Africa!

And I have never changed my name!

Who are you flying with? Get somebody else (e.g parents, best man) to phone customer service and let them know you will be on honeymoon and that anything the airline can do as a "surprise" would be nice.

geordieminx · 22/04/2009 15:57

Good plan Dad - will get mum to ring... although its continental airways or something so I'm not holding out much hope

Continental are one the big US airlines - they are full service not a budget airline so will have business and first sections - keep your fingers crossed you could get lucky.

geordieminx · 22/04/2009 16:32

Thanks dad!

You are of course very welcome - just let us know if you manage to blag anything.

geordieminx · 23/04/2009 11:47

We dont fly until the begininng of October - is it better to wait until closer to the time?

Do it now and then repeat nearer the time (may be getting somebody else to phone up for the second time). Early and often is good rule when dealing with airlines (this from somebody who gets his prebooked veggie meal about 50% of the time!).
