I am away on business this weekend, well friday is meetings all day and evening meal with colleagues and am staying the sat too to have a small break and check out new shops

So have booked nice, not cheap hotel for 2 nights

Have since found out a friend is free so might join me. Do I have to notify hotel as it isn't certain? I looked online and went through booking for one and for two and as far as I can see, it shouldn't cost any extra

If I book for him and he can't make it after all, will they charge him as a no show?

Most hotels charge by the room, not pper person, so you should be ok. Have fun

Some hotels charge less for single occupancy some charge for the room the same rate if single or double. The issue some hotels will have is having a guest not recorded as staying in the hotel. If it is a 'nice' hotel' why not make a new enquiry (make it up) to see what they say.

I work in a hotel.

We would need to know in advance for the restaurant (small hotel).

Also if we had a guest coming on single occupancy we would put them in a room with a double bed, I presume you want twin beds? To avoid having to change rooms I would notify them the day before. It shouldn't be a problem as most good hotels have "zip and link" beds which can be either double or twin but just in case...

If the charge is the same then they obviously charge per room and not per person so your rate should not change.

Have a lovely weekend!
