After a desperately hard year (death of my father), my mum is keen to go away with all the family this autumn. We have no preference whether it's in the U.K. or abroad; our criteria is more that we'll all have a relaxing time creating shared memories. The group will be mum (73), 4 parents and 4 girls (7,9,9,& 10). If any of you have any suggestions, I'd be grateful.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad.

We just had a lovely family gathering at this house in North Wales: www.llystanwg.co.uk/ The house was brilliant, with beautiful views and really well equipped and decorated, really comfortable beds, lovely bedding, etc. The house was big enough for the kids to be very noisy in one room without bothering everyone and those who wanted a bit of piece and quiet always found a quiet spot somewhere in the house. There was also a games cabin outside. I really recommend it.

If you're thinking abroad, have a look at some of these cottages in Northern Spain in the small business ads section.

When I was looking at going on a package type holiday it was going to be mega expensive as our term dates fall so that the holiday season ends before the school holidays begin. So any holiday was going to be tailor made, unless you for for an all year round destination.

Thanks for your responses. Budget would be about £2000 for the 9 of us so maybe 'abroad' is unrealistic? We'd want somewhere hot (Canaries?) or eks a high standard of accomodation in this country.
