Car hire in Nice - bring own car seat or not?

Am hiring car in Nice in Sept this year, but am unsure whether or not to hire a carseat with it. I've read a couple of posts on here which have suggested that hired carseats aren't the best quality.

Thing is, our isofix car seat is huge and really heavy (stage 2). Do people really bring these on holiday with them? Am reluctant to buy a lighter one specifically for this purpose!

No - take your own - we hired through Avis in Italy last year and the seats they gave us were broken (the foam they were made of was in bits!) - when I took them back and complained the girl said they were all like that and I was the first to complain.

We've done both, initially took our own because we were afraid of the quality of seat we'd get. In general however the ones that we've hired have been fine. Do you have just the one - our IL's have a smaller non-isofix that we've also borrowed as its easier to transport. We have the maxicosi second stage isofix at the moment and its a great seat but weighs a ton and is v. unwieldy with the leg as well!

we took our own when we went to Nice

Take your own, even if you have to buy a lighter, cheaper one to do so.

The car seat we got given in Nice was dreadful and totally inadequate and pretty battered. We argued and gt a better one, but it was still not good.

We've always had OK car seats when we've hired in France/Geneva, and we've done it probably 15 times or so now! If you don't like the one they give you, give it back and request a new one - though we've never had to do that (we generally hire through Hertz or Sixt)

We went to Nice last Sept and wanted 2 car seats - one for DS3 which was fine, quite new and in v good condition. Other one was a Stage 2 one for DS then 1.5 and it was terrible - v old, ripped and scuffed! Complained and was told thats all they had. That was with Hertz - and we had to fit them ourselves after a v long que at the counter and then short bus ride to the car pick up point.

Having said all that, just got back from Spain and Hertz were brilliant there - 2 brand new seats already fitted in car.

Not sure if that helps but thats my relatively recent experience!!!

Wait until you see the carseat. If you don't like it, buy one here in Nice. You don't have to get an isofix one, and it shouldn't be too expensive.

I can give you the addresses of several shops, if you like.
