Which Greek Island?

Thinking of two weeks at the back end of August with two LOs (5&3). Don't want to be baking hot as it'll be no fun, just nice and warm with good swimming, tranquil but interesting for the children.

I know nothing about the Greek Islands so any advice/suggestions would be v welcome.

I love Crete! Haven't been in May though. It is pretty breezy and the pools will be cold if not heated.

Yes I have many years ago! We were in a S/C apartment and could use the pool of the small hotel over the road (same owner) but it was colder than the sea! I'm not sure they even had the facility to heat it. Our apartment was on the beach side of the road anyway, so we only tried the pool once.

It is generally cooler at the start of the season as the land and sea have not had a chance to warm up after months of hot sun, you find it much warmer at the other end of the season because of this.

We had to take something to wear in the evening if eating outside as the temp drops a few degrees once the sun goes down.

Paxos and Crete!

Lived in greece for a year or so and saw a fair few places. I my favourite of which were: the north west of Greece - area around Meteora and Metsov. There are amazing sights at meteora; it is lush and green but obv no beaches. Second favourite is Skopelos. Good beaches and not developed in the same way (e.g., tastelessly) as many Greek islands.

Have always fancied Crete and Corfu.

You might also want to check out the Pelion/ Pilion peninsula - not as full of english tourists, very scenic, lovely, lovely beaches, and popular with Greeks themselves.

Metsovo, not Metsov, duh sorry.
