We're taying two nights in Manchester next week and travelling by train, dd groaned at the science museum.
Does anyone have any recommendations for somehing to do with a grumpy nearly nine year old and ds aged four?
Also places to eat which are a bit different, we nearly always go to Cafe Rouge.
Thankyou.

get tram to Lowry - do Imperial War Museum North and Lowry. Tram ride is quite good fun, all through Salford Quays. Or the City Art Gallery, it has an OK kids' section.

To eat - Las Iguanas on Deansgate - brazilian/mexican type food. Or Chinatown near Piccadilly Gardens. Or bus out to Rusholme a couple miles out for Manchester's curry belt.

Manchester Museum has mummys.

Thanks we're staying on Deansgate, so might try Las Iguanas.

What is at the Lowry, or is that a really daft question considering the name?

If you want other museums, Portland basin musuem at Ashton is good, out east. It has miniature trains, a canal boat ride, and lots for children.

Manchester museum for dinosaurs and natural history and Egyptian mummies. Lindlow bog man is there at the moment.

Styal Mill on the south of the city for learning about mistreated orphans in cotton mills.

Mine like the swimming pool on Oxford Rd with elephant slides.

Thanks pigleto she might like that, I've just been sitting here thinking Mummys what? Then I realised the other type of Mummy.

Lindow Man finishes 19th April but there is lots and lots of other cool stuff in the Manchester Museum.

We are going on the 15th thanks Kathyis6incheshigh, where is the Manchester Museum by the way?

It's on Oxford Road. It's part of the university (but free and public). If you get the train to Oxford Road station you just walk south along Oxford Rd for about 10 minutes till you get to it on the right - there are banners etc so you can't miss it.

The museum also has a vivarium with live snakes and lizards.

Thankyou again, I think we'll be going there, just looked at the website and it looks good.

Any good breakfast recommendations please?

Just wanted to say a big thanks, the Manchester Museum went down very well with all of us, as did Las Iguanas.
We had a lovely stay, thanks all.
