Thinking of doing this.....never done it before. Can anyone offer tips, questions one should ask or any other advice please....or any other companies that they have used and liked

Am a bit worried about doing it all direct with the owners

Yep we have booked a few times with ownersdirect , also with holiday lettings and bought accommodation off ebay. Never had any trouble at al, saves loads of money. Well apart from slight loon that rang us this morning at 6.30 to confirm he had received the deposit in his bank!We are going to Ibiza in July to a villa on owners direct. This is always the bit that concerns me the most tbh, sending a deposit to someones bank that you dont know and isnt a business. Takes a bit of a leap of faith, but as I say, we have never had any problems and have stayed in some fab place. Haggle on price at the mo - we got 500 euros off a ten night stay.

I've used Holiday Rentals a few times and never had any problem. Quite afew places have reviews now too.

Depending on where you're looking to go, Cottages4you have a huge range, and of course they do it all for you.

I have used holiday rentals and owners direct

Both have been problem free.Emailed or talked on the phone to the owners. They have always been very helpful.

I will heartily recommend this villa in zante

we advertise on owners direct and generally, you get a much better deal booking direct as you cut out any middle man fees.

You also get to talk to the owners direct, so you can really find out what and what isn't provided, ask specific questions etc.

We do advertise on other managed sites but get most of our rentals directly eith by word of mouth recommendations, repeat bookings and then via owners direct and of course here from our small ad on mumsnet.

We always spend a lot of time talking to prospective guests so that we earn their trust.

Make sure the owner will give you their home address and landline on booking - at least you know where they live!

HTH
