Have owned both these cars & would say that unless you plan to use one of the extra seats in the back for the childs booster seat the mondeo will have more room.

only renting it for a few weeks in the summer

ds will be in high back booster in the back
presumably in the middle

mondeo is cheaper to rent than the zafira

I thought the zafira was bigger in the back?

could rent a picasso if it's big in the back

Pretty sure our mondeo was wider across the back seat. It was definitely wider across the boot (was an estate).

paolosgirl · 01/04/2009 22:31

Not the Mondeo - we had an estate with 3 kids plus a car seat and it was a squash. We now have a lovely Alhambra - bliss! I think the Zafira is wider across the back seat...

Zafira!! EXH had a mondeo estate and I've got aZafira - always go more in my car!!! You can push the back seats forwards or backwards according to what you need ina Xafira. or have a 2,2,1 combo if you need to fit long items in. Love my Zafira!!! very flexible!

We have a Zafira, great size bootspace when you are only using the 5 seats. Great for hols.

I drive a Mondeo at home but hired a Zafira on hols last year.

Think they're both the same in the back seat.

DadInsteadofMum · 02/04/2009 13:47

Have driven both, the Zafira is very comfortable to drive. If you have a high backed booster, and have three across, then both will leave the adults in the back squashed. With the Zafira you can put the kid (but not an adult) into the third row, but this will severely cut down your luggage space.

So if limited luggage and adults in back happy to lean over and service kid then Zafira, if full luggage or the kid needs to be next to an adult then the Mondeo.

Ceolas · 02/04/2009 13:51

The Zafira is based on the body of the Astra, so I think the mondeo will be wider. Agree totally with Dadinsteadofmum. If you have not much luggage the zafira will be better, if you need the bootspace, go for the mondeo.

Not sure about your seatbelts, herbietea, ours is an 05 model and has 7 standard lap and diagonal belts.

I had a mondeo estate up until feb when i got a brand new zafira.

we could fit 3 car seats accross the back but it was a squash, and for hundreds of miles, im not sure i would want to be squashed.

We are going up north in may, myself and DH in the front, DS in his stage 1 car seat and my dad in the middle, and the girls on highback boosters in the "boot"

We are hiring a roof box for the week though to take the luggage!

We did a weekend in october in a zafira, all 6 of us again, without a roofbox and all the kids had bags at their feet!

brimfull · 02/04/2009 19:36

thanks everyone

I think we'll look into renting a picasso then.

I seriously don't want to be squashed all the way from south coast to glasgow.
